Whenever a prominent honors show draws close, there’s always a demand for introducing fresh award types to honor unsung work and delight the spirits of followers who have specialized interests.
My colleague made the case advocating for terror-themed awards. That would rule. Equally deserving are board games, representing someone's personal cause. However, I must insist when I prioritize since similar to single-minded supporters, I possess a compelling case supporting my request remains most pressing and important of all. Here's the proposal: There should be an award type for logic-based games.
Categorizing Game Types
Organizing artistic expressions isn't exact; it’s very subjective, and it will always generate discussions resulting in unclear classifications. There’s a reason movie academies avoid this approach. But it is an unavoidable compromise in the world of gaming, which are so diverse they hardly constitute one unified medium.
To recognize the complete range of gaming accomplishments to receive acknowledgment, while allowing diverse titles to receive proper recognition, classification by type becomes crucial.
Existing Game Classification System
The major gaming awards presently include classifications covering Action, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these classifications actually cover numerous genres, and you can find room accommodating various experiences.
Not so for puzzle games. No appropriate category exists to accommodate them. Examine these examples from outstanding current releases, each quite distinct: structural challenges from a specific release, the pulse-pounding block-matching in a different title, thought-provoking social scenarios from additional release. Which classification works within current classifications? Simply put, no category fits.
Recognition Challenges
There are dozens excellent brain-teasers launched regularly without proper recognition at major award shows, unless they happen to qualify award groups including Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, or the extremely competitive independent game categories.
- An iconic brain-teaser got overlooked for anything during that awards season
- Another creative title missed out during that ceremony
- Popular arranging title got ignored recently
- Only a few puzzle games managed to sneak into niche award types
Value of Brain-Teasers
These are often small games, however the design of the puzzle game carries substantial weight. Iconic mobile puzzle games count as most popular titles in the world and have been for an extended period.
The legendary block-stacking game challenges popular creative games for the title of most purchased experience; it’s also in the running as greatest title ever. Logic titles represent cornerstones within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation across multiple categories.
The Solution and Justification
Logic titles wouldn't face that issue. You could fill five nominees with fascinating, diverse, deserving games annually without trouble — or rather, with difficulty, since numerous excellent numerous deserving experiences.
To emphasize again, these represent titles lacking appropriate categories in important events. Puzzle game makers operate at the challenging frontier game development, creating some of the purest expressions within interactive entertainment. Just like movie stunt professionals, they warrant appreciation. Don't make them wait 35 years.
